Preparation for Dent, Filling and Primer Application

A MaxMeyer Tutorial on preparation for dent filling and primer application.

 

 

Step 1

It’s important to remove as much trim and items as possible to do a quality repair. Like the washer jets and badge in this video.

Step 2

Sand the damaged area to remove the paint for the application of the bodyfiller. Using a quality planetary sander and a P80 grit DA Disc attached to the dust extraction unit, remove enough paint to bear substrate for the application of the bodyfiller whilst not going over too much surrounding paint work.

Step 3

Degrease the sanded area for cleaning prior to the application of the bodyfiller using MaxMeyer degreaser, wiping clean with a quality disposable cloth.

Step 4

Apply quality bodyfiller to the panel. Air dry the bodyfiller or the process can be sped up using infra red equipment.

Step 5

When fully cured and cooled down, apply guide coat to the bodyfiller. This will allow any imperfections or low areas when sanding to be noticed.

Step 6

Using a dust extracted sanding block and starting with a P180 strip, sand the filler keeping the area as small as possible. Thus not putting too many coarse scratches in the paintwork surrounding the bodyfiller area. Finishing off with a P180 strip.

Step 7

You can see the P180 grit scratches on the edge of the paintwork. Using a quality dust extracted DA sander with a 125mm backing pad and P320 125mm DA Disc, sand out all the P180 scratches around the bodyfilled area.

Step 8

Then DA sand with a P500 125mm DA Disc, sand the surrounding area to the P320 sanded area leaving the preped area for the application of MaxMeyer High Build Primer. The vehicle is now ready for masking.
